For the past 20 years, working in bars and restaurants has been more than a job for me – its been a journey filled with lessons, challenges and triumphs.

As a woman in this dynamic industry, I’ve encountered obstacles and opportunities that have shaped my career, allowing me to rise through the ranks from server, bartender and management, to now take the role of Operations Manager for the Daffodil. Each transition brought its own challenges, but I took them as opportunities for personal and professional growth. Often having to prove my capabilities beyond my male counterparts, I learned to advocate for myself and others, and seek out mentors who recognise potential, and I look forward to continuing to demonstrate that women can lead in high-pressure roles.
With that founding in a first-start, I’m delighted to have created an opporunity for young people looking for employment with a training scheme with The Learning Foundry and Seascope, to develop skills and bring talent into the hospitality industry. Seascope Liverpool deliver training for hospitality on cruise ships and private yachts – up to the highest levels of silver service.
Leadership in hospitality is multidimensional. It involves not only managing teams but orchestrating exceptional guest experiences. I have always believed that management is about tasks, and leadership is about vision. The importance of communication and collaboration and valuing the input of my team, leads to the importance of fostering a positive and inclusive work environment with a motivated team.
I am delighted to be a part of the Daffodil project. Launching such a unique concept in Liverpool’s famous Docks is both daunting and exciting. It has certainly challenged me to think innovatively and step outside the comfort zone of bricks and mortar, however resilience and adaptability are the bones of hospitality, and the challenge was accepted.
Being part of the Daffodil project has reminded me of the passion that first drew me into this industry, and I am eagerly anticipating welcoming guests aboard!
