Regenerative Tourism at Daffodil

At Daffodil, we believe tourism should actively contribute to a better future. Our approach goes beyond sustainability – we aim to regenerate, restore and create positive impact across climate, community and culture.

Climate – Towards Net Zero

  • We are a fully electric operation, powered by sustainable wholesale energy from shoreside mains, with no carbon-based fuels used in the running of our business.
  • sensitive fit-out has reduced our footprint from the outset: LED-only lighting, high-efficiency heating, and modern refrigeration systems ensure we consume energy responsibly.
  • In partnership with the Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory team at Liverpool John Moores University, we are exploring funding for capital works that could cut Lower Deck HVAC emissions by two-thirds.
  • We are committed to a baseline CO₂e assessment after our first year of operation, establishing upstream and downstream data that will shape our decarbonisation strategies from 2026 onwards.

Circular Economy – Waste, Supply & Resources

  • All commercial waste is managed by Stone at Royal Albert Dock, collected by electric vehicles and processed into recycling streams and biofuels. We receive regular sustainability reports on their performance.
  • Food waste is digitally tracked and audited, allowing us to keep wastage close to zero through careful preparation and portion control.
  • We work on a principle of ethical sourcing, acquiring food, drink and consumables from a local radius. Partnerships include Seachange Wines, which invests in marine ecological protection, and La Salle Hotel School, supporting sustainable food growing and skills development for young people.

Biodiversity – Protecting & Restoring Nature

  • Through investment in La Salle Hotel School, we directly support horticultural training in Croxteth and Norris Green, where beneficiaries care for apiaries, raised beds, polytunnels and orchards. This initiative sustains biodiversity while providing food education across generations.
  • Our berthing fees contribute to the Canal & River Trust, whose conservation work and “life is better by water” programme protect waterways and enrich communities nationally and locally.

Place-Based – Respecting Local Communities

  • Located in the heart of the Liverpool waterfront, Daffodil is served by excellent public transport links, encouraging low-carbon travel and predominantly footfall-based custom.
  • By bringing a heritage space back into use, we have transformed an empty dock into an active community asset, enhancing facilities for both residents and visitors.
  • We continue to engage with local residents and stakeholders, supporting the Engage CIC Waterfront Resident Network and participating in collaborative initiatives across the dock estate.
  • Our supply chain and staffing reflect a strong commitment to the Liverpool City Region economy, ensuring that value created here stays here.
