Liverpool is a city of staunch socialism, a place of togetherness and unity when affronted or faced with adversity. That’s clear. We’re proud of our roots and it’s what makes up the conscious of the diverse peoples from this corner of our isle.
Equally, as an icon of Merseyside culture, history and of great importance to many – we feel that Daffodil is truly ‘owned’ by the collective and that we are but custodians along her long and esteemed journey. Much like the Liver Birds, St George’s Hall, the cathederals or the iron men. Or Queen’s Square bus station and St John’s, leave it or take it.
To have an opportunity to save this once proud piece of our local cultural heritage and reimagine its use, to become something really special once again is something that’s driven us from the start. Why wouldn’t it? It’s wrapped in potential and by Jove did we take on a lot.
What’s really important to us, is that this future creates opportunity – setting a foundation for amazing things to happen, whether gastronomically, musically or visually when it lands in that dock. To employ, to serve, to give!
Daffodil knows that community means everything to this City Region and it’s important that we remember the part it has played and will continue to play in serving that local community into the future.
That’s why we have partnered with La Salle Hotel School – a community organisation made up of a social enterprise and charity, based in Croxteth. We’re going to collect voluntary donations on all bills this festive season – just give a little and together, we’ll do a lot.
In an area of multiple deprivation, where young people and their families face the blight of economic challenges and entrenched disadvantage – La Salle has offered a beacon of light and positivity for all.
Giving young people a future
La Salle Hospitality Education Charity (LSHEC) is primed to change the hospitality sector as a force for good in the Liverpool City Region, by nurturing new generations of a skilled future workforce from within our most challenged communities.
“Our belief is that every person has the right to an enriching education and should have the ability to access the best support to achieve a successful career, regardless of their background or circumstances. In the last five years we learned about the specific needs of individuals, the ecosystem of educational institutions and have established links to local businesses through our development of La Salle Hotel School C.I.C.
“Working with hundreds of children and young people during this time has been central to forming a novel strategy, which is designed to deliver transformational impact at all levels. We have received overwhelming endorsement and positive contributions from the industry, as the local hospitality community stand with us with full support, to raise the necessary funding to re-develop the centre and create a place where young people can find their pathway into food growing, cooking, service and all-round hostpitality excellence.”
Help us to deliver a rich future for young people and donate along with payment of your bill at Daffodil.
